Laser Treatment FAQ

Is FotoFacial the right treatment for me?

FotoFacial™ treatments are full face, neck, hands, or body treatments using both the Aurora™ and Polaris™ lasers. These are gentle, no downtime treatments and are used to improve the cosmetic appearance of the face, neck, and body. FotoFacial treatments are beneficial in the treatment of rosacea, hyperpigmentation, chronic sun damage and photo aging, wrinkles, and skin laxity.

Is Laser Hair Removal right for me?

Hair removal with the Aurora™ laser offers an effective solution to shaving, waxing, plucking, or electrolysis. It’s the first laser hair removal technology to remove hair of all colors on all skin types.

The laser uses gentle light and radio frequency energies to damage the hair follicle. This disables the follicle from growing hair, which means that gradually over several treatments, there is a permanent reduction in the amount of hair in that area.

Treatment is very safe for the skin. Each treatment will result in less hair coming back, and hair becoming progressively lighter in color, finer, and slower growing with each treatment. It takes more than one treatment to affect all of the follicles growing in a particular area. Most people achieve satisfactory clearance after 4-8 treatments, but individual results may vary depending on medical and genetic factors. Lighter-colored hair may require more treatments than darker-colored hair.

Is a Laser Acne Treatment right for me?

Anyone who wants an alternative to topical or oral therapies for acne, or who has not responded to traditional acne solutions, should consider the Aurora™ AC laser. The Aurora laser uses a specified spectrum of light that targets the bacteria that actually cause acne.

Acne occurs when a sebaceous oil gland surrounding a hair follicle becomes clogged with oil and dead skin cells. Bacteria growth in the clogged environment causes infection and acne blemishes. The combined bi-polar radio frequency of the laser penetrates the skin to precisely target and destroy active acne-causing bacteria, while also slowing excessive sebaceous gland production. Treatment helps in reducing active acne and speeds up the healing time of existing acne.

The number of treatments depends on the severity of the acne.

What happens during a laser treatment?

Each laser treatment consists of a series of light pulses that will be applied to the skin. The treatment may give a sensation of a light pinch that only lasts for a fraction of a second, and the SynerCool™ cooling system makes the treatment both comfortable and safe. A full-face can be done at one sitting using varying settings to maximize skin improvement.

What results should I anticipate?

Depending upon which laser treatment you choose, your results will improve your overall skin quality. Some patients may experience short-term pinkness and warmth or tingling of the surrounding skin. Treatments require no patient downtime and most people return to normal activities immediately after treatment.

What can I expect post-laser treatment?

After your treatment, your skin will feel better, smoother, less red, less cystic, or have less hair. These improvements are gradual and will become more visible after each treatment. Discomfort following treatment is almost non-existent, but the skin may feel warm and appear pink/red for a couple of hours after treatment. Within a few hours, make-up can be reapplied and normal activities may be resumed.
