Enhancing the fullness and projection of a woman’s breast

Breast Surgeries FAQ

Is a Breast Lift or Augment right for me?

Breast augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that uses implants to enlarge and shape the breasts. Your enhanced look may bring you greater freedom with clothing and could give your self-confidence a boost as well.

A breast lift (mastopexy) can reshape, firm up and lift sagging, shrinking or atrophied breasts. It can also reduce the size of an enlarged, stretched areola (the pigmented area around the nipple).

What happens during a breast augmentation?

The implants we use today are filled with a salt-water solution (saline) that is harmless to your body. After careful consultation with each patient a desired size is determined and the shape of the implant to be used. The incision is small and is usually made underneath the breast just above the crease. Once the incision is made, Dr. McKeown creates a pocket into which the implant is inserted. This pocket is made beneath the pectoral muscle. The incisions are then closed with special sutures that are removed usually within a week.

What results should I anticipate?

The goal of the surgery is to enhance your breast size and shape to give you the desired shape and size breast to maximize your appearance. You should anticipate a more confident well-proportioned breast.

What can I expect post-surgery?

After the surgery, patients will wear a dressing and surgical bra. Post-operative discomfort is well controlled with the prescribed medications. Swelling and bruising usually subside within a few days, and most patients are back to work within one week. Every effort is made to minimize scars, which will gradually fade with time.

What happens during a Mastopexy?

Several techniques exist, but the general breast lift procedure consists of removing excess skin from the lower part of the breast. Then, the nipple, areola and underlying breast tissue are elevated to a new, higher position. Incisions are closed with very precise, special sutures.

What results should I anticipate?

A breast lift can reshape and lift sagging, shrinking or atrophied breasts. A Mastopexy lifts your breasts to a more natural position prior to child bearing, weight loss or gain.

What can I expect post-surgery?

After the surgery, patients will wear a dressing and surgical bra is applied. Post-operative discomfort is well controlled with the prescribed medications. Swelling and bruising usually subside within a few days, and most patients are back to work within one week. Every effort is made to minimize scars, which will gradually fade with time.

How do I know if I need a Mastopexy or an Augmentation or both?

After a thorough examination and careful discussion of your desired results, Dr. McKeown will help you determine which procedure/s are most appropriate to reach your optimal result.
